When you’re not feeling well, it can be hard to know whether it’s just a common cold or something more serious like the flu. While both illnesses share some symptoms, there are a few key differences to watch for.

Common Cold Symptoms

  • Stuffy or runny nose
  • Sneezing
  • Mild cough
  • Sore throat
  • Fatigue (mild)

Flu Symptoms

  • Sudden onset of high fever
  • Body aches and chills
  • Severe fatigue
  • Headache
  • Dry cough and sore throat

When to See a Doctor

If you have a high fever, difficulty breathing, or symptoms that worsen instead of improving, it’s time to contact your primary care provider. Early treatment can help shorten the duration of the flu and prevent complications.
